Sustainability at the Show

Did you know that Sydney Showground aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050?

Work is already underway to achieve this goal, and you’ll see sustainable practices and recycling efforts across the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

Keep your cup and get a free plant! If you head down Showground Road, you’ll see the coffee cup plant refill bar.

Bring any empty cup – from your coffee, or maybe your fresh lemonade – and one of our friendly volunteers will pot up a plant for you to take home.

It’s a memento from your day at the Show that will keep on growing. Keeping cool doesn’t have to cost the planet

Lighting and air conditioning upgrades across the Showgrounds has reduced venue carbon emissions by 120 tonnes over the last few years.

That’s the equivalent of charging 1.4 million smartphones

Recycling around the Showgrounds

  • Last year 5,600m3 of muck (bedding and manure) was removed and recycled from the Show.
  • Around 450m3 of woodchip timber from the woodchopping competitions is recycled into poultry bedding.
  • 60% of water used onsite is recycled, non-potable. The recycled water is used for the Stadium irrigation systems and flushing toilets.
